A Look Back

It is bitterly cold today. The girls are in the coop under the stairs, Merlin is dozing on his heater and Fergus and I are snuggled under a blanket. We are looking at pictures taken in 2013.

January brought snow…

IMG_1995…and cold weather.

IMG_1963                                    But also primroses.

February stayed snowy…

IMG_2319                                    But Valentine scones..

IMG_2178                                .and cozy fires got us through.

March saw life return..

                                 As the snow melted..
IMG_2706                                …the crocuses appeared.

And inside..IMG_2447                               Seeds were started.

April saw us building raised beds.

IMG_2806
While the woodland gardens..IMG_2907                             ..delighted us with their delicate blooms.

May brought much warmer weather.

IMG_2939                       Cold hardy plants were planted in the gardens.

IMG_3020

And the girls began preparing the pumpkin patch for us.

June saw the gardens planted.IMG_3134                         And a watering system installed.

IMG_3266                             And the girls got a new run.

July was HOT.  But the gardens survived and heat loving plants were happy.

IMG_3708                               Tomatoes began to ripen.

And the bathroom..IMG_3667                                         …got a fresh look.

August brought more harvest..

IMG_3858

       And a very unwelcome visitor.

September was cooler.

IMG_3878                          The sedum began to bloom.

IMG_3882                         We harvested our first pumpkin.

IMG_3945                          And the girls began to molt.

October was glorious.

IMG_3968                          With pumpkins and mums..

IMG_3953                                         ..and gourds.

But we lost our beautiful Maeve.

November brought gray skies and a brown world.

IMG_4121                            The gardens were put to bed.

IMG_4115                        And Fergus and Merlin napped together.

December brought dark days but also festive decorations.

IMG_4404                           And more cozy fires.

DPPV_14                       Our solar panels were installed at last.

IMG_4415                                  And snow has returned.

And so the cycle of the year is complete.  Winter will hang on for awhile, as nature rests, but Spring will return.  And with it life.  And the cycle will begin again.  That is the true “new year” for me.  But the new calendar begins tomorrow, with the new year.  And who knows what 2014 will bring?

Happy New Year everyone!
