Winter continues here in New England. We have been spoiled by mild winters the past few years..and early Springs. But not this year. Today there is a fresh dusting of snow and the air remains crisp and frosty.
The snow settles gently on the heather. It will wait for a warmer day to bloom.
The leaves of the Rhododendron curl in the cold.
Even the birds appear to be sleeping in this morning, the feeders untouched.
It is a quiet time of year. The early morning is silent. No bird song or buzzing bees. No chattering squirrels. It can be very restful. A time to reflect unhurriedly. No rushing about. Nature is sleeping. Waiting for spring.
It is a time for indoor projects. I have begun weaving some towels.
The warp is on the loom and I am in the process of threading the heddles.
A simple blue and white check I think…but once I start weaving I may experiment a bit with the weft. That is the fun part.
The girls continue to enjoy their morning oatmeal, especially with the new addition of yogurt.
Fergus dozes in the sun. We will walk later. There is no hurry.
Merlin has retreated to his little cave..on his heater. The stove is just lit and not warm enough for him yet. Luckily he has many places.
So life at Brookwood Shire continues at its gentle winter pace. But I do miss my gardens. A friend of mine posted this picture on Facebook this morning.
The cottage seems out of a fairy tale…something the kindergarten teacher in me will always love…but it is the gardens….so bright and colorful that caught my eye. And made me realize just how MUCH I miss my gardens!
But time passes, the seasons unfold and I know that the greens and pinks and yellows of Spring will return…and we will appreciate them all the more for the wait!
I love the towels and did that very same pattern many years ago, in fact they are still in use. Aren’t they fun to make. Glad all is well at Brookwoodshire. Everyone looks comfy cozy.
Carole
Thanks. I have made them a few times but always for others…and I really like them…so I thought I would make a set for here….
Everything looks so peaceful and cozy! And the weaving project looks very fun. Please post a picture of the finished towels.
I will definitely post a picture, but it may take a few weeks. Thanks. Patti
Aww, the towels will be wonderful, as are the scarves you weave!
Thanks Joan…and thanks for posting that lovely picture this morning. It was just what I needed!
