Sandy

As Hurricane Sandy approaches, we wait. The weather people have been talking for days about this storm….how they have never seen anything like this before. Not this track, not three HUGE storms meeting up…not the possibility of so many millions of people without power. They are expecting record high storm surges, coinciding with a full moon. They are urging everyone to take it seriously.

But not one word about climate change. Not one comment about what is causing all this extreme weather…

As if we can ignore nature and do whatever we want to the planet without consequences.

Disregarding the gentle balance that creates our world.

Blind to the beauty that is everywhere.

And when storms swirl around us, when forests burn and crops die from lack of rain, while others drown in floods…still we cannot see the harm we have done..are doing.

I agree we must take this storm seriously. I will make preparations, batten down the hatches and hope to stay safe. But if we are to really take this storm seriously, then we must look beyond the satellite images, beyond the winds and the rains and the tides. We must look to the way we are living our lives.

We must find a way to live with nature. It is not our planet to destroy. It does not belong to us.

I too have wondered too why no one has brought the global warming issue up. It is amazing. We all must work together . Stay safe during the storm.
