The Season Progresses

Today was an absolutely beautiful day! Autumn continues on. It is darker in the mornings and darker earlier and earlier in the evenings. The leaves are falling. Yet the weather continues to be unseasonably warm and lovely. It may be Indian Summer, but if it is, it is going on much longer than I remember in the past. No, the planet is warming. It is undeniable. We are seeing the consequences of it everywhere. And I fear it will become more and more apparent as time goes by. But today was beautiful..a day to be enjoyed. Luckily there was plenty to do outside!

The leaves are thick on the lawn. But such a great day for raking.

I managed to expose a bit of green.

And left quite a pile of leaves to be chipped into mulch.

A brief walk in the gardens was an opportunity to observe the way the season is unfolding.

You can see that the rains have taken a toll on the mums. No longer as colorful as they were, yet still adding structure to the walkway.

The squirrels are relentless in their consumption of the pumpkins.

Never can I remember a year when they ate so many pumpkins! There will be none left to carve by Halloween!
But there were pleasant surprises as well.

The primroses continue to take advantage of the warm weather.

The lettuce continues to grow.

This verbena has revived itself, after somehow surviving the last frost, and is again glorious!

And this creeping phlox has decided it is spring!

But this tree, across the street in my neighbor’s yard, tells a different story. So beautiful!
Nature takes advantage of every moment, and for those of us who are privileged to observe it, puts on an amazing show in all seasons!
